Building Scale Model Boats
Building model boats can be a fine pastime for anyone interested
in building and in seafaring vessels. However, it is even more
rewarding and impressive to build scale model boats. Scale model
boats are models that are done with dimensions of the same
proportion as the original ship, but smaller. For instance, one
might build a ship that is 1/50th the size of the real ship.
This means that it is built just as if the original was shrunk
down. And, if the model is especially fine, all of the little
details of the much larger ship can also be seen. Building scale
model boats is a great way to learn a little history, and
participate in a respected and time-honored hobby.

RC Boat Models and Children
It is not likely that a child will be able to actually build RC
boat models, but it is possible to get a child interested in
boat models by purchasing a relatively inexpensive radio control
model as a gift. These can inspire a love of the hobby, and lead
to a rewarding activity that a parent and a child, or even the
whole family, can enjoy together.

Two Different Coast Guard Ship Models
The United States Coast Guard is charged with the duty of
patrolling the waters belonging to the U.S. These boats are
meant to catch lawbreakers as well as to rescue the unfortunate.
Just as it is possible to construct or buy any other ship
models, there are Coast Guard ship models available to add to
any collection. Two of the types of ships most widely used by
the Coast Guard are also available as Coast Guard ship models.
These are the 110-foot patrol boat, Island Class, and 41-foot
utility boat. Each of these types of boats has special duties
and makes an excellent display piece.

Viking Ships and their Conquest
Viking ship models are constructed after the manner of ancient
Viking ships. Interestingly enough, most models are based on
actual ships that were found buried at different places in
Scandinavia (they were used as burial ships for prominent and
important people). Many Viking ship models are based after the
ship found near Oslo, called the Gokstad. It is possible to
build a model replica of this ship, as well as the ship known as
the Oseberg ship, which is also a very popular model. These two
ships have actual been reconstructed in full size, and sailed on
the ocean, as well as built in half size models and popularly
produced in smaller model kits.

The History of the Liberty Ships
Like all model ships, the Liberty ship model is based on a ship
with a fine history. Indeed, a Liberty ship model is not one
particular ship, but a whole genre of ship. Liberty ships were
first commissioned as cargo ships for the United States Merchant
Marines. These ships were fine ships, and in possession of the
